Orientalism as a Western intellectual movement in studying the Eastern world has significantly influenced the development of Islamic education in Indonesia. This article aims to examine in depth how the object of study of Islamic regions from an orientalist perspective affects the system and practice of Islamic education in Indonesia. Through qualitative descriptive methods with a library research approach, this study traces the historical footprints and long processes of orientalist thought penetration that has become the forerunner of secularism in Islamic education in Indonesia. The results show that orientalism has had multidimensional negative impacts on the education and lives of Indonesian Muslim communities, including: dichotomous separation between religious values and daily life, the view that religiosity is synonymous with backwardness, and degradation of the essence of religious life which is considered low and obsolete. These findings reveal the urgency of critical studies on the influence of orientalism in Islamic education, given its ongoing impact on the religious and intellectual identity of Indonesian Muslims. This article recommends the need for reconstruction of an authentic Islamic education paradigm capable of integrating Islamic values with the advancement of science without being trapped in the snares of secularism.
